Malaria Net Distribution
Project Description
A tour of the Rugerero survivors village and meetings with many residents helped us identify malaria as a considerable ongoing health problem, especially for children. The sleeping conditions in the village are unacceptable in most of the mud brick homes. Adults sleep on straw covered with weathered fabric. Children often sleep on straw mats sitting on dirt floors.
The mosquitos enter the sleeping quarters since windows are not covered. After research and discussion about most effective and accessible solution it was determined that mosquito nets could improve these conditions.
ex;it foundation funded the purchase and distribution of 500 nets to all residents of the village. Interviews six months after distribution suggested only 3 cases of malaria in that time.
